A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 675e.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 675e. (1) Upon new construction of, resealing of, or
resurfacing of existing handicapped van accessible parking spaces
required by law or rule, parking spaces, curb cuts, and access
aisles shall conform to the specifications for accessible and
usable buildings and facilities prescribed in the American national
standard 1998, ICC/ANSI A117.1.
(2) The area between each van accessible handicapped parking
space required under subsection (1) shall be painted with blue
diagonal stripes that are 4 inches wide and 24 inches center to
center.
(3) A person who violates this section is responsible for a
civil infraction and subject to a fine of $100.00, and an
additional fine of $100.00 for each 30-day period after the
citation is issued during which the violation remains uncured.
However, the total fine shall not exceed $1,000.00.
(4) As used in this section, "person" means a person, as
defined in section 40, who is the sole or part owner of a parking
lot.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted.
