     A bill to encourage colleges and universities to provide

 

education to students on recognizing depression and other mental

 

health disorders and preventing suicide.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1. Each degree- or certificate-granting public or private

 

college or university, junior college, or community college in this

 

state is encouraged to develop an education program on recognizing

 

depression and other mental health disorders and preventing suicide

 

and to provide that program to its students annually, beginning

 

with any freshman orientation program offered by that institution.
