SENATE BILL No. 148

 

 

February 2, 2005, Introduced by Senators TOY, BIRKHOLZ, BROWN, McMANUS, HARDIMAN, GARCIA, ALLEN, GOSCHKA, OLSHOVE, KUIPERS and JACOBS and referred to the Committee on Transportation.

 

 

 

     A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled

 

"Michigan vehicle code,"

 

(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 811o.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 811o. (1) The secretary of state shall develop under

 

section 811e and, upon application, may issue under section 811f a

 

state-sponsored breast cancer awareness fund-raising registration

 

plate and a matching state-sponsored breast cancer awareness

 

collector plate as provided under section 811g. The secretary of

 

state shall design the plate, having the pink ribbon emblem of the

 

Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation inscribed on the plate.

 

     (2) The secretary of state shall deposit the fund-raising

 

donation described in section 811f into the breast cancer awareness

 


fund established under subsection (3).

 

     (3) The breast cancer awareness fund is created within the

 

state treasury.

 

     (4) The state treasurer may receive money or other assets from

 

any source for deposit into the fund. The state treasurer shall

 

direct the investment of the fund. The state treasurer shall credit

 

to the fund interest and earnings from fund investments.

 

     (5) Money in the fund at the close of the fiscal year shall

 

remain in the fund and shall not lapse to the general fund.

 

     (6) The state treasurer shall disburse the money in the fund

 

quarterly to the American cancer society Great Lakes division to

 

support research, programs, and services related to breast cancer.

 

     (7) The entity receiving money under this section shall

 

provide an annual accounting of the use of the money to the state

 

treasurer.

 

     Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act takes effect May 1,

 

2005.
