House Resolution No. 315.

A resolution commemorating November 17, 2006, as the 50th anniversary of the Michigan State Numismatic Society. 

Whereas, The purpose of the Society is to encourage and promote the science of numismatics; aid its members in the acquisition, study and exhibition of numismatic material; stimulate the development of interest and knowledge in numismatics; cultivate friendly relations among collectors and students; encourage and assist new collectors; foster the interest of youth in the subject; and demonstrate the fact that numismatics is an educational, serious and entertaining pursuit; and

Whereas, The Society is a statewide organization, drawing its membership from all 83 counties in the state of Michigan.  Its alumni and former alumni include members of the United States Assay Commission, numismatic authors and designers of coins and medals, including the late Felix Schlag, designer of the Jefferson Nickel first issued in 1938; and

Whereas, The Society maintains a national affiliation in the American Numismatic Association. The American Numismatic Association is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to educating and encouraging people to study and collect money and related items.  With nearly 33,000 members, the Association serves the academic community, collectors and the general public with an interest in numismatics; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body commemorate and celebrate November 17, 2006, as the 50th Anniversary of the Michigan State Numismatic Society; and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Governing Board of the Michigan State Numismatic Society at its annual convention to be held in Dearborn, Michigan during the weekend of November 24-26, 2006.
