            House Resolution No. 37.

            A resolution honoring National Kidney Foundation of Michigan upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

            Whereas, It is with deep appreciation of the significance of this milestone that we commend the volunteers and staff of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) as it marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of this exemplary organization.  We are proud to recognize the important role that this group has played in contributing to the awareness, healthcare, patient care, and treatment of kidney disease in the state of Michigan; and

            Whereas, Since its founding in the state, the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan has become a vital player in helping to educate people about kidney disease.  One in nine adults has chronic kidney disease, and most don’t know it. The success this organization has achieved is the direct result of the commitment of the people involved and their ability to communicate to the community and comfort those affected; and

            Whereas, In looking back over 50 years of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan's history, it is clear it has set its course with a continuing look to the future.  Marked by milestones of addressing the epidemic of chronic kidney disease caused by diabetes and high blood pressure, it has developed prevention programs such as KICK (Kids Interested in the Care of their Kidneys) and Healthy Hair Starts with a Healthy Body. It has also developed many other programs such as Peer Mentoring and R.I.S.E. (Rehabilitation Information Support and Empowerment).  The path of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan can only lead to continued success; and

Whereas, We are grateful for all that the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan has contributed to state of Michigan and all of its citizens.  A recent example is its partnership with the Michigan Department of Community Health in creating the Strategic Action Plan for the prevention, early detection, and control of chronic kidney disease in Michigan; and

Whereas, March is National Kidney Month; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body honor the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan upon the occasion of their 50th anniversary.  We salute them on this happy occasion and wish them well in the years to come; and be it further

            Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan as a token of our esteem.
