House Resolution No. 352.
A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Hayes Jones.
Whereas, It is with great respect for his lifetime of commitment to our state and to his community that we salute the Honorable Hayes Jones. This distinguished gentleman has proven in many ways his strong sense of public service and unselfishness; and
Whereas, Elected in November 2006 in a special election, Hayes Jones came to the Michigan Legislature with an unusual array of credentials. Mr. Jones, a state champion in track at Pontiac High School who earned his bachelor's degree at Eastern Michigan University, won Olympic medals in 1960 and 1964, including a gold in Tokyo. As impressive as this feat was, it mirrored his penchant for excellence in helping others. Upon his return to his hometown, for example, he donated his gold medal to the youth of Pontiac, where it has been on display at city hall since 1965; and
Whereas, In his more than 40 years of management in the private and public sectors, Hayes Jones has been closely involved with issues that are of great significance to our state. His knowledge has been especially important to the people of Oakland County, whom he has served as the director of the Department of Community and Economic Development. In this role, he has worked tirelessly to bring jobs and investment to his community. This experience, coupled with his lifelong interest in encouraging young people, brought him to Lansing. Clearly, he will continue to strengthen our state in the years to come; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of our respect to Representative Hayes Jones of the Twenty-ninth District for his dedication to our state and its future; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Representative Jones as evidence of our best wishes.
