A SUMMARY OF SENATE BILL 572 AS PASSED BY THE SENATE 11-8-07
The bill would amend Part 401 (Wildlife Conservation) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to do the following:
· Authorize the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) to issue an order regulating the taking of game with a modified bow that may be shot with one arm. The order would be issued under the terms of Section 40113a, which gives the NRC authority to regulate the taking of game. The existing provisions in Section 40114 relating to the issuance of permits for the use of modified bows would not apply once the NRC order went into effect.
· Allow the revocation of the permit of a person who was convicted of violating the terms of a permit or the provisions of Section 40114, and require the disposal of any animal or animal parts in the violator's possession in a manner approved of by the Department of Natural Resources. While currently a permit can be revoked when a permit holder violates Section 40114, the bill would also allow revocation when a person violated the terms of the permit itself. (Note: The section of the act dealing with revocation of permits applies to all types of permits authorized by Section 40114, not just permits to hunt with a modified bow. Other permits authorized under Section 40114 include permits to hunt from a standing vehicle, crossbow permits for permanently disabled persons, permits to take animals for rehabilitation, and several others.)
