A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5593 AS INTRODUCED 1-9-08
The bill would amend the Public Service Commission law (MCL 460.9d) to allow a utility to shut off a customer's service if the customer has "failed to fulfill an obligation to the utility." Before doing so, the utility would have to deliver a notice to the customer, by "personal service" or certified mail, at least 15 days before the specified shutoff date. Thereafter, the utility could shut off service on the date specified in the notice.
