Senate Bill 730 (as introduced 9-5-07)
Sponsor: Senator John J. Gleason
Committee: Education

Date Completed: 10-10-07

CONTENT The bill would amend the Revised School Code to replace references to a "handicapped person" with "person with a disability".
The Code contains references to a "handicapped person", "handicapped pupil", and "handicapper" in certain definitions and other provisions throughout the Code. The bill would replace those terms with "person with a disability".

The bill would require "person with a disability" to be defined by rules promulgated by the State Board of Education. Disabilities would include mental, physical, emotional, behavioral, sensory, and speech disabilities. (These provisions are similar to current language regarding the definition of "handicapped person", which the bill would remove.)
