     A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

 

"The revised school code,"

 

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1223a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1223a. (1) The board of a school district or intermediate

 

school district or board of directors of a public school academy

 

shall ensure that the school district, intermediate school

 

district, or public school academy does not expend public funds for

 

any of the following:

 

     (a) A prize or reward of any kind for a pupil for attending

 

school on the pupil membership count day or the supplemental count

 

day.

 

     (b) A prize or reward of any kind for a pupil for the pupil's

 

attendance record for a period of time.


 

     (2) As used in this section, "pupil membership count day" and

 

"supplemental count day" mean those terms as defined in section 6

 

of the state school aid act of 1979, MCL 388.1606.
