A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled
"Revised judicature act of 1961,"
(MCL 600.1 to 600.9947) by adding section 569.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 569. (1) In each judicial circuit having 3 or more
judges, the judges of that circuit, by majority vote, shall elect
from among their members a chief judge. The election shall take
place on January 2 of each odd-numbered year, or as soon as
practicable after that date. The judge elected to the position of
chief judge shall serve in that position until January 2 of the
subsequent odd-numbered year.
(2) The judges of a circuit who elect a chief judge may remove
him or her as chief judge for cause. A vote of 2/3 of the judges of
that circuit is required to remove a chief judge. If a chief judge
is removed, the judges of the circuit shall elect his or her
successor by a majority vote.
(3) In a judicial circuit having 2 judges, the supreme court
shall select the chief judge.
