A bill to require a person to provide proof of citizenship or
legal status before being issued a municipal identification card by
a local unit of government.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1. (1) Before being issued a municipal identification
card by a local unit of government, a person shall provide to the
clerk of the local unit of government proof that he or she is a
citizen of the United States or, if not a citizen of the United
States, proof of his or her legal presence in this country.
(2) As used in this act, "local unit of government" means a
county, city, village, township, or charter township.
