A bill to designate the day upon which the first University of

Michigan home football game occurs each year as Bo Schembechler Day

in the state of Michigan.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

Sec. 1. The legislature recognizes the outstanding

contributions made by Glenn Edward "Bo" Schembechler to the state

of Michigan. He is best known as the head football coach at the

University of Michigan, where he coached from 1969 until 1989. In

his college football coaching career, he won a total of 234 games,

including 194 at the University of Michigan. He is the winningest

coach in Michigan football history, and he never had a losing

season. His Michigan football teams won or shared 13 Big Ten titles

and made 10 Rose Bowl appearances. He was widely regarded as a

coach of great personal integrity. He helped elevate the annual

Michigan-Ohio State football game into one of college football's

greatest rivalries. In recognition of this great man, the

legislature declares that the day upon which the first University

of Michigan home football game occurs each year shall be known as

"Bo Schembechler Day".
