SENATE BILL No. 510

     A bill to require the department of labor and economic growth

 

to establish a jobs information service for urban residents and

 

suburban employers.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1. As used in this act:

 

     (a) "Suburban area" means a business or residential region

 

near an urban area.

 

     (b) "Urban area" means an urbanized area as determined by the

 

economics and statistics administration, United States bureau of

 

the census, according to the most recent federal decennial census.

 

     Sec. 2. The department of labor and economic growth shall

 

establish a jobs information system that provides individuals

 

residing in each urban area in this state with employment

 


information about employers in each suburban area that is within

 

commuting distance to the urban area. At a minimum, the jobs

 

information system shall do all of the following:

 

     (a) Identify the suburban area employers who have part-time or

 

full-time employment positions available, and include each

 

employer's address, telephone number, and, if applicable, e-mail

 

address.

 

     (b) Describe the nature of the work for which each suburban

 

area employer is seeking employees, and identify the pay ranges

 

available for that work.

 

     (c) Identify public transportation available between the

 

suburban area employer and the urban area.
