SENATE BILL No. 742

     A bill to amend 1986 PA 288, entitled

 

"An act to establish a Michigan work-study program for qualified

resident students attending eligible postsecondary schools and

employed by qualified employers; and to prescribe the powers and

duties of certain state agencies,"

 

by amending section 3 (MCL 390.1373).

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 3. (1) A recognized postsecondary school in this state is

 

eligible to participate in the MWS program if the postsecondary

 

school meets all of the following:

 

     (a) The school is a degree-granting institution approved by

 

the state board of education. , the

 

     (b) The instructional programs are not comprised solely of

 


sectarian instruction or religious worship. , and the

 

     (c) The school participates in the federal work-study program

 

under sections 441 to 448 of title IV of the higher education act

 

of 1965, 42 U.S.C. USC 2751 to 2756b.

 

     (d) The school considers a student enrolled in that school a

 

resident of this state for determining his or her tuition rates if

 

the student is an active duty member, or the spouse or dependent

 

child of an active duty member, of the armed forces of the United

 

States, while that active duty member is stationed in this state

 

and during the student's continuous full-time enrollment in the

 

academic degree program in which he or she is enrolled if that

 

active duty member is transferred to active duty outside of this

 

state.

 

     (2) A participating school, at its option, may offer academic

 

credit to students enrolled in the MWS program.
