The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No.

            A resolution of tribute offered as a memorial for Donald E. Holbrook, Jr., former member of the House of Representatives and former judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals.

            Whereas, The members of the Michigan House of Representatives and the legal community of our state were saddened to learn of the passing of Donald E. Holbrook, Jr. His long and accomplishment-filled life in public service set the highest standards of commitment. With his 8 years as a lawmaker and distinguished career in the judiciary, this gentleman exerted an impact on our state that will long benefit our citizens and institutions; and

            Whereas, A native of Grand Rapids who earned degrees from Albion College and the Wayne State University Law School, Donald Holbrook answered his country's call and served 4 years in the United States Air Force before embarking on a public service career that spanned 4 decades. First elected to the Michigan House of Representative in 1964, he was among the legislators faced with the major task of implementing the state's new constitution. As chair of the House Judiciary Committee, he was integral in the enactment of the 1968 legislation creating the District Court; and

            Whereas, Following his tenure crafting and voting on legislation, Donald Holbrook turned his intellect and talents to the real world application of the law as a jurist. After 2 years with the Circuit Court, he was elected in 1974 to the Michigan Court of Appeals, from which he retired in 2002. In addition to his outstanding efforts on the bench, Judge Holbrook was a leader with several commissions devoted to improving our state's justice system. His thoughtfulness and thorough understanding of the impact the law has in our society earned him widespread respect across our state.  Clearly, his life of service will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of our highest respect to honor the memory of Donald E. Holbrook, Jr., who served our state with great distinction as a lawmaker and as a judge; and be it further

            Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Judge Holbrook's family as evidence of the lasting esteem held for his memory throughout our state.
