The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 480.
A resolution of tribute for the Honorable John Garfield.
Whereas, It is with deep appreciation for the energy, commitment, and dedication with which he carried out his efforts as a lawmaker that we offer this expression of thanks and best wishes to John Garfield as he brings to a close his service with the Michigan House of Representatives. His belief in our state and affection for the people of the Forty-fifth District have benefited Michigan in many ways; and
Whereas, John Garfield began his service to country in 1967 when he joined the United States Army and served through the end of the Vietnam War, finishing his military service in 1974. To this day he continues to be a tireless advocate for veterans, serving in the Ninety-third Legislature as chair of the Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs. He was also appointed to the state Agent Orange Commission and worked with AMVETS, Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion; and
Whereas, Representative Garfield started his public service in elective office on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, winning a seat on that body in 1993 and serving through 2002. He joined this legislative body in 2003 where he has served with distinction and dedication. He has contributed to this body's consideration of numerous issues, including energy supplies, veterans affairs, homeland security, economic development, and natural resource conservation; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of tribute to commend and thank the Honorable John Garfield for his notable contributions to this legislative body and to our entire state; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Representative Garfield as evidence of our gratitude and best wishes.
