The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 481.

            A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Matt Gillard.

            Whereas, It is with great appreciation for his hard work over the past 6 years that we salute Matt Gillard as he concludes his service as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. His knowledge of issues and deep respect for our system of legislative government made him an effective contributor to the work of this body. He worked tirelessly for the people of the One-hundred-sixth District and the entire state; and

            Whereas, As a graduate of Alpena High School, Matt Gillard ventured to the southern part of the state to earn a bachelor of science degree at Albion College and a juris doctor degree at Wayne State University. He answered the call to return home and practice law in his hometown of Alpena, where he could help others and enjoy the many recreational opportunities of northern Michigan; and

            Whereas, In 2003, Representative Gillard took the oath to serve in this body for the first time. Since then, he has contributed to protecting the state's vast natural resources and environment, overseen elections and ethics policy development, and evaluated long-term health care policies. Most recently, he has been a leader in the development of the state budget, serving as vice chair of the Appropriations Committee and chair of the subcommittees responsible for the judiciary and K-12 budgets; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of gratitude and thanks to the Honorable Matt Gillard for his notable contributions to this legislative body; and be it further

            Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Representative Gillard as evidence of our gratitude and best wishes.
