The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 484.

            A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Jacob W. Hoogendyk, Jr.

            Whereas, It is a privilege for the members of the Michigan House of Representatives to join together in honoring Representative Jacob W. Hoogendyk, Jr., as he completes his tenure of service in this legislative body. First elected in 2002 from his southwest Michigan district, Representative Hoogendyk was returned to Lansing by the voters in 2004 and 2006, where he worked tirelessly on issues of policy oversight, taxation, education, families, and health; and

            Whereas, Jack Hoogendyk brought a wealth of experience to Lansing. His sales and management experience in a private company gave him a sound foundation in the economic realities of our state. He also learned the nuts and bolts of government at the local level as a member of the Portage Zoning Board of Appeals and Kalamazoo County Public Health Advisory Board, and later on the Kalamazoo Board of Commissioners. His volunteer work in his community kept him in contact with his constituents, enhancing his effectiveness as a legislator. Of particular note, Jack Hoogendyk's leadership in a faith-based nonprofit that helps young women and families overcome the challenges of unplanned pregnancies has helped many build futures when hope seemed scarce; and

            Whereas, In his 6 years in the House of Representatives, Representative Hoogendyk has demonstrated a commitment to public service that has served our state and his district well. We are confident that Representative Hoogendyk's tenure in this legislative body will stand as an example of how a citizen-legislator can affect public policy; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we honor Representative Jacob W. Hoogendyk, Jr., as he concludes his service with the Michigan House of Representatives; and be it further

            Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Representative Hoogendyk as evidence of our esteem.
