Rep. Gillard offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 205.

            A resolution to memorialize the United States Congress to enact the School-Based Health Clinic Establishment Act of 2007.

            Whereas, Members of the Michigan legislature regard the health of our children to be of paramount importance to families and communities in our state and we consider protecting the health and well-being of Michigan children to be essential to improving the lives of our youngest residents; and

            Whereas, School-based health centers are a demonstrated effective means of bringing preventive and primary care to medically underserved children and increasing academic success. There are 1,700 health centers in 44 states serving 2 million children, including 87 health centers serving 200,000 children in Michigan; and

            Whereas, School-based health centers work in collaboration with schools to integrate health into the overall school environment. This Act would authorize a grant-based program for the operation and development of school-based health centers; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we memorialize the United States Congress to enact the School-Based Health Clinic Establishment Act of 2007; and be it further

            Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members of the Michigan congressional delegation.
