Rep. Corriveau offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 304.

            A resolution to oppose the expenditure of any public funds for the purpose of clarifying or repeating any portion of the results of the Michigan presidential primary election conducted on January 15, 2008.

            Whereas, Due to the change of the date on which the 2008 Michigan presidential primary election was held, issues have arisen nationally regarding the votes cast for Democratic candidates in the January 15, 2008, primary election in Michigan; and

            Whereas, Nationwide attention is being paid to the issue of whether Michigan's January 15, 2008, primary election of a candidate for the Democratic Party will be taken as it stands or whether the election must be repeated through a variety of possible methods; and

            Whereas, In the event it is determined that a new vote must be taken for the Democratic Party candidates, it has been estimated that funds in the amount of $10 million may be needed to finance the new vote; and

            Whereas, The state of Michigan and its citizens are in the midst of difficult economic times, and the appropriation of any more funds by the state for a repeat of the January 15, 2008, election would be fiscally irresponsible; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the Michigan House of Representatives, That we oppose the expenditure of any public funds for the purpose of clarifying or repeating any portion of the results of the Michigan presidential primary election conducted on January 15, 2008; and be it further

            Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Office of the Governor.
