The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 467.
A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Fran Amos.
Whereas, It is with great admiration for her commitment to the people of the Forty-third District, as well as the entire state, that we honor Representative Fran Amos as she ends her tenure of service as a member of this legislative body; and
Whereas, Fran Amos earned her bachelor's degree from Oakland University, and she received the university's Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 1990 and the Outstanding Alumni Service Award from the School of Business in 1985. Because of her involvement with the School of Business Alumni Association, the school named a scholarship after her in 1989; and
Whereas, Prior to being elected to the House of Representatives, Fran Amos was an executive with Ameritech, where she was recognized numerous times for her endeavors. In 2000, the American Business Women's Association named her as one of the top 10 business women in the nation. The Waterford chapter named her Woman of the Year in 1987-1988 and 1999-2000. Representative Amos also served on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, and while on the board she was elected as vice-chair. She also served as a member of the Oakland County Mental Health Board from 1996 to 2000 and was chair of the board from 1997 to 2000; and
Whereas, Her expertise in education, mental health, economic development, and the arts and her commitment to excellence in public service greatly enriched the efforts of the legislature over the past 6 years. During her tenure in the House, she has served as a member of the House Appropriations Committee and in each of her terms in the legislature, she has served as a chair or vice chair of various appropriations subcommittees. She has received the respect of her peers who rightly view her as a conscientious and thoughtful legislator; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of our gratitude to the Honorable Fran Amos as she brings to a close her tenure in this legislative body; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Representative Amos as a token of our esteem.
