The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 488.

            A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Philip LaJoy.

            Whereas, As he brings to a close his tenure with the Michigan House of Representatives, it is an honor for the members of this legislative body to salute Philip LaJoy for his many contributions on behalf of the people of Michigan. Philip LaJoy has served his constituents in the Twenty-first District and the people in the entire state with dedication and an utmost respect for the principles that underlie the democratic process. He is to be commended; and

            Whereas, Indeed, Philip LaJoy's entire career has embodied public service. He served in the United States Marine Corps, worked in a host of community and youth volunteer organizations, and was a Canton Township trustee before being elected to the first of his 3 terms in the House in 2002. He has also had an extensive career in the business world and as an entrepreneur. These many and varied activities have provided Philip LaJoy with valuable insights that have furthered his career in the House of Representatives; and

            Whereas, Representative LaJoy served as the chair of the House Committee on Transportation in the Ninety-third Legislature, and was the sponsor of a number of transportation-related public acts. He has also served with distinction on the House Committees on Labor; Energy and Technology; and Natural Resources, Great Lakes, Land Use, and Environment. In each of these responsibilities, Philip LaJoy work has made an outstanding contribution to public policy in Michigan. We wish him the best as he brings to a close his career as a lawmaker in the Michigan House of Representatives; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we hereby offer this expression of tribute to commend and to thank Philip LaJoy for his notable contributions to this legislative body and to the people of Michigan; and be it further

            Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Representative LaJoy as evidence of our esteem and best wishes.
