A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILLS 5899 & 5900 AS PASSED BY THE HOUSE
Two recently enacted bills amended the Occupational Code put in place a protocol to deal with unclaimed cremated remains ("cremains"), including a process to determine if the deceased was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces. These became Public Act 148 (House Bill 5245) and Public Act 149 (House Bill 5246) of 2009.
Each of the new acts carries an effective date of July 1, 2010. House Bills 5899 and 5900 would amend the enacting sections of those new acts to change the effective dates to May 20, 2010.
