A SUMMARY OF HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION N AS INTRODUCED 2-24-09

The joint resolution requires a reduction in salary for any legislator who does not attend session and does not receive an excused absence for not attending.  Salary reduction amounts are required to be credited to the General Fund, and the Legislature is required to implement the resolution by enacting appropriate legislation.

The resolution would amend the State Constitution (Article IV, Section 55) if approved by voters.  The proposal would go before the voters at the next general election (November 2010).

FISCAL IMPACT:

The amount of savings to the state is indeterminate at this time.  The savings amount would depend on the following:  the number of legislators who do not attend session and do not receive excused absences, the number of sessions missed, and the amount the salaries are reduced.
