SENATE BILL No. 601

     A bill to amend 1923 PA 312, entitled

 

"An act to empower the United States of America to acquire lands in

the state of Michigan by purchase or otherwise for establishing,

consolidating, and extending national and state forests; to grant

to the United States of America all rights necessary for the proper

control and administration of lands so acquired; and to authorize

cooperative agreements between the state of Michigan and the United

States for the acquisition, management, and operation of public

forest lands,"

 

by amending section 1a (MCL 3.401a).

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1a. Authority is hereby given for the conservation The

 

commission to of agriculture may enter into cooperative agreements

 

with such the federal agencies as have or may be that have been

 

given such authority by act of congress for the purpose of

 

acquisition, management, and operation of public forest lands.

 

Under such these cooperative agreements, forest lands purchased by

 

the United States shall be administered by the conservation


 

commission of agriculture as state forest lands and, during the

 

period the agreement remains in force, 1/2 of the gross proceeds

 

from all lands covered by the agreement and to which the United

 

States holds title shall be paid by the state to the United States.

 

: Provided, That However, when the amount of such these payments

 

shall equal the total sum expended by the United States in

 

acquiring said the lands, title to said the lands shall be

 

transferred from the federal government to the state. : And

 

provided further, That in In the event of the termination of said

 

the cooperative agreements where the title to said the lands is in

 

the United States, then the federal government shall reimburse the

 

state for so much of the state funds as have been expended in the

 

administration, development, and management of the lands involved

 

as the secretary of agriculture may decide to be fair and

 

equitable.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect

 

unless Senate Bill No. 603                                    

 

          of the 95th Legislature is enacted into law.
