Reps. Roy Schmidt, Ball, Lisa Brown, Terry Brown, Constan, Hansen, Robert Jones, LeBlanc, Liss, Mayes, Pearce, Polidori, Smith, Tyler and Valentine offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 300.  

            A resolution to declare the week of June 21 through June 27, 2010, as State Games Week in the state of Michigan. 

            Whereas, This year will mark the inaugural games of the State Games of Michigan with over 3,500 athletes participating in 15 sports, including basketball, BMX, boxing, bowling, fencing, figure skating, rugby, racquetball, rowing, hockey, track and field, mountain-biking, volleyball, softball and tai kwon do; and

            Whereas, The philosophy of the State Games of Michigan is that everyone participates regardless of age or ability.  Also, everyone is welcome and plays to help keep Michigan people healthy by staying active.  This coincides with Michelle Obama’s mission to reduce childhood obesity within the United States and most importantly in Michigan; and

            Whereas, Michigan is one of 31 states that are hosting their own state games, where more than 90 sports are being played throughout 536 communities for nearly 500,000 participants; and

            Whereas, The State Games of Michigan embodies the values of participation and good sportsmanship as well as living a healthy life style by staying active; and

            Whereas, A grassroots organization, the State Games of Michigan relies on the dedication of thousands of volunteers and the support of corporate partners; and

            Whereas, The State Games of Michigan is endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare the week of June 21 through June 27, 2010, as State Games Week in the state of Michigan.
