House Resolution No. 202.
A resolution declaring January 2010 as Discover Snow Sports Month in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, Winters in Michigan offer an abundance of enjoyable recreational outdoor activities including: skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and ice skating; and
Whereas, The state of Michigan boasts more than 36 ski resorts, giving residents of the state of Michigan a ski area within a two-hour drive. Something no other state can say; and
Whereas, Michigan ski areas boast a combined total of 42 areas with over 200 chairlifts, 840 runs, 40 terrain parks and thousands of kilometers of groomed cross-country trails; and
Whereas, Michigan has a distinguished winter sports history and is the home of the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame; and
Whereas, The citizens of Michigan work tirelessly to uphold our strong outdoor recreation heritage and winter tourism within our state; and
Whereas, During the month of January, Michigan residents and visitors are encouraged to learn a new snow sport and take advantage of the sports that Michigan winters provide; and
Whereas, ‘Pure Michigan’ is our state’s motto, and there is nothing more ‘Pure Michigan’ than our driven snow; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body proclaim January 2010 as Discover Snow Sports Month in the state of Michigan.
