            House Resolution No. 138.

            A resolution to declare October 6, 2011, as Read For The Record Day in the state of Michigan.

Whereas, Millions of children in low-income neighborhoods are at risk of school failure before they even start kindergarten; and

Whereas, Jumpstart's Read for the Record® allows Americans to demand that all children receive the quality early education they deserve; and

Whereas, In 2010, a record of reading to 2,057,513 children was set and Jumpstart aims to break that record; and

Whereas, The official campaign book this year is Anna Dewdney's Llama Llama Red Pajama; and

Whereas, On October 6, 2011, more than 2 million voices will call for an end to America's early education achievement gap by reading Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney – setting a new world record in the process; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare October 6, 2011, as Read For The Record Day in the state of Michigan.
