House Resolution No. 250.
A resolution to declare May 4, 2012, as Stand for Change Day in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a child is bullied every seven minutes; and
Whereas, One in seven students is either a bully or a victim of bullying; and
Whereas, According to the National Association of School Psychologists, 160,000 students stay home from school every day for fear of bullying; and
Whereas, Teen suicides are on the rise and bullying is often cited as a contributing factor in these tragic situations; and
Whereas, Millions of students and teachers across North America will stand for change on May 4, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. to let the world know that they will no longer tolerate bullying in their schools and communities; and
Whereas, By joining in this movement the Michigan Legislature can demonstrate its commitment to improving the lives of young people everywhere and help to save lives in the process; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare May 4, 2012, as Stand for Change Day in the state of Michigan.
