A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4269 AS INTRODUCED 2-19-13
House Bill 4269 would amend the Revised School Code by adding a new section to create the Statewide School Safety Commission in the Michigan Department of Education.
The bill, as introduced, requires that not later than April 1, 2013, the governor appoint the members of the school safety commission.
Further, the bill specifies that the commission would do all of the following:
· Study and determine best practices for minimizing the risk of violent incidents at schools;
· Recommend policies and practices for public and non-public schools to implement in order to prevent violent incidents at school;
· Make recommendations to the Legislature on appropriate legislation that would help minimize violent incidents at school; and,
· Publicize its findings and recommendations.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact for House Bill 4269 is indeterminate as it does not require additional employment or payments to safety commission members. The bill may, however, require MDE staff to adjust time allocation for work time spent on commission activities.
