     A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled

 

"The social welfare act,"

 

(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 10g.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 10g. (1) The department shall ask each applicant at the

 

time of an initial application for food assistance if he or she is

 

a veteran of the United States army, navy, air force, marine corps,

 

or coast guard, including their reserve components, or the national

 

guard or air national guard of this state or of another state. If

 

the applicant is a veteran of the United States army, navy, air

 

force, marine corps, or coast guard, including their reserve

 

components, or the national guard or air national guard of this

 

state or of another state, the department shall forward that

 

information to the department of military and veterans affairs.


 

     (2) The department shall ask each recipient at the time of

 

redetermination for food assistance if he or she is a veteran of

 

the United States army, navy, air force, marine corps, or coast

 

guard, including their reserve components, or the national guard or

 

air national guard of this state or of another state. If the

 

recipient is a veteran of the United States army, navy, air force,

 

marine corps, or coast guard, including their reserve components,

 

or the national guard or air national guard of this state or of

 

another state, the department shall forward that information to the

 

department of military and veterans affairs. This subsection does

 

not apply if the information has been previously obtained by the

 

department at the time of an initial application or at the time of

 

a previous redetermination.
