     A bill to amend 1998 PA 58, entitled

 

"Michigan liquor control code of 1998,"

 

(MCL 436.1101 to 436.2303) by adding section 1024.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1024. (1) A retailer shall work with the department of

 

human services and with persons that provide automatic teller

 

machine services on the retailer's premises to prevent an

 

individual's access to family independence program assistance by

 

electronic funds transfer or withdrawal from an automatic teller

 

machine on the retailer's premises. For purposes of this section

 

only, a retailer does not include a retail grocery store that sells

 

or offers to sell staple foods to consumers for off-premises

 

consumption in addition to alcoholic liquor.

 

     (2) As used in this section:

 

     (a) "Family independence program assistance" means that term


 

as defined in section 57 of the social welfare act, 1939 PA 280,

 

MCL 400.57.

 

     (b) "Staple foods" means that term as defined in section 3 of

 

the food and nutrition act of 2008, 7 USC 2011.
