Rep. Mike Shirkey, from the 65th District, offered the following invocation:

“Dear Heavenly Father and Creator of All, including our government, please accept our inadequate yet heart felt thankfulness for the privilege and blessing of serving our friends, families, and neighbors of Michigan. We yearn to seek Your will and act to honor You in all we do. We endeavor to learn and remember that ‘the ways of man lead to death and destruction absent the guidance of Your Holy Spirit’. And to that end we ask for Your grace to guide our thoughts and our words and guard our hearts from things of this world.

Bless our leaders and protect them from temptation and unwarranted attack.

In the precious name of Jesus we pray, Amen.”
