House Resolution No. 318.
A resolution to declare March 2014 as Music Month in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, Music is a universal language that speaks to all people. The month of March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month. The purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children; and
Whereas, Being involved in the music programs in Michigan's schools has a significant impact on our students and on our community. Thousands of students participate in either instrumental music, vocal music, piano studies, music theory, strings program, guitar class, Fraser Performing Arts Academy, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and many other music-related programs; and
Whereas, Music contributes to the development of our young people through heightened skills in listening, reading, self-expression and creativity. Music develops attributes such as critical thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication and team work. Music improves the atmosphere for learning, helps students to achieve in other academic subjects and encourages students to persevere. Music is basic to a complete education; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare March 2014 as Music Month in the state of Michigan. We extend our appreciation to the music educators across Michigan for their dedication and service to the young of our community.
