Pastor Elmer R. Hess Jr., Pastor of First Pentecostal Family Worship Center in Battle Creek, offered the following invocation:
“Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank You for this day. It is a day filled with opportunities, possibilities and purpose.
We thank You for our representatives, who have been elected to serve and represent their respective communities. Help them to never forget the dreams that inspired them to represent and give them the strength, passion and courage to carry out their duties.
Lord, You have been our dwelling place and we realize that in spite of our differences, struggles and challenges, You have been good to us.
We pray for Your blessing upon each representative and this session. Bless them O God to always remember it is in You that we live, move, and have our very being. Bless them O God to remember in the heat of discussion that what matters most, it is not who is right, but what is right.
We thank You for Your presence, direction and favor upon everything they shall say and do this day and the days to come.
Now Lord let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, Oh Lord, our strength, and our redeemer. It is with thanksgiving that we pray, in Jesus name… Amen.”
