CONTENT

The bill would amend Part 401 (Wildlife Conservation) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to provide that an individual would be guilty of a misdemeanor if he or she violated a provision of Part 401, or an order or interim order issued under it, regarding the importation from another state or province of a cervid carcass or parts of a cervid carcass, other than hides, deboned meat, finished taxidermy products, cleaned teeth, antlers, or antlers attached to a skullcap clean of brain and muscle tissue. The violation would be punishable by imprisonment for a maximum of 90 days and/or a fine of at least $500 but not more than $2,000, plus the costs of prosecution.

FISCAL IMPACT

The bill would have no fiscal impact on the State and an indeterminate fiscal impact on local government. An increase in misdemeanor arrests and prosecutions could increase resource demands on law enforcement, court systems, and jails. Any increased fine revenue would be dedicated to public libraries.
