A bill to amend 1941 PA 207, entitled
"Fire prevention code,"
by amending section 3e (MCL 29.3e), as amended by 2006 PA 189.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 3e. (1) The bureau shall promulgate rules as provided
under section 2a pertaining to uniform fire safety requirements for
the operation and maintenance, but not the construction, of
commercial buildings, industrial buildings, and residential
buildings, excluding 1- and 2-family dwellings and mobile homes.
(2) By 1 year after the enactment date of the 2015 amendatory
act that added this subsection, the bureau shall promulgate rules
as provided under section 2a requiring the owner of any commercial
or industrial building, or of a residential structure of 3 units or
more, with light-frame truss-type construction to mark the
structure with a sign or symbol approved by the bureau warning
persons conducting fire suppression or other emergency operations
of the light-frame truss-type construction. The bureau may approve
different signs or symbols to indicate whether the light-frame
truss-type construction is in the roof, floor, or both. The rules
shall include, but need not be limited to, all of the following:
(a) The dimensions and color of each sign or symbol.
(b) The time within which affected structures shall be marked.
(c) The location on each affected structure where the sign or
symbol shall appear.

The state fire marshal shall
consult with the board
with respect to developing rules for the delegation of authority to
firefighters and fire chiefs.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
