SUMMARY:
House Bill 5769 would repeal Public Act 181 of 1956, which charged the Department of Social Welfare with purchasing a site or sites, and preparing preliminary plans, for a boys’ vocational school and made a one-time appropriation for those purposes.
[The Michigan Boys Vocational Home was operated on about 30 acres in Lansing, Michigan, from 1856 to 1972. Almost all of the buildings were demolished after the Home was closed. A new Boys’ Vocational School facility was opened near Whitmore Lake in February of 1960; it was later named the W.J. Maxey Boys Training School. It was closed in 2015.]
