ALLOW SIGNAGE TO COMMEMORATE VETERANS

OR THOSE WHO HAVE DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

SUMMARY:

House Bill 6063 would amend the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act to specify that a zoning ordinance could not regulate or prohibit a sign located on or within a building that commemorates either veterans of the United States Armed Forces or any of the following who died in the line of duty:

·         Police officers.

·         Firefighters.

·         Medical first responders.

·         Members of the United States Armed Forces.

The bill would define “medical first responders” to mean that term as defined in           section 20906 of the Public Health Code.[1]

The bill would take effect 90 days after being enacted into law.

FISCAL IMPACT:

House Bill 6063 would have no fiscal impact on state or local government.
