SUBSTITUTE FOR

HOUSE BILL NO. 4858

     A bill to amend 1897 PA 205, entitled

"An act to prefer honorably discharged members of the armed forces

of the United States for public employments,"

(MCL 35.401 to 35.404) by adding section 1a.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

     Sec. 1a. If this state or a political subdivision of this

state hires a veteran, this state or the political subdivision

shall treat the veteran's military experience as relevant

professional experience for the purpose of determining the

veteran's wage or salary. As used in this section, "veteran" means

that term as defined in section 1.

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

after the date it is enacted into law.
