A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
by amending section 223 (MCL 257.223), as amended by 2007 PA 143,
and by adding section 328a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 223. (1) A registration certificate shall at all times be
carried in the vehicle to which it refers or shall be carried by or
electronically accessible to the person driving or in control of
the vehicle, who shall display a paper or electronic copy of the
registration certificate upon demand of a police officer.
(2) A person who violates this section is responsible for a
civil infraction.
Sec. 328a. A certificate of insurance, whether in paper or
electronic form, that otherwise satisfies the requirements of
section 328(1) shall be accepted as prima facie evidence that
insurance is in force for the motor vehicle described in the
certificate of insurance until the expiration date shown on the
certificate.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
Enacting section 2. This amendatory act does not take effect
unless Senate Bill No.____ or House Bill No. 4010 (request no.
01139'17) of the 99th Legislature is enacted into law.
