A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1136a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1136a. A school district, intermediate school district,
or public school academy, or a school operated by a school
district, intermediate school district, or public school academy,
shall not do any of the following:
(a) Ask a pupil or a parent or legal guardian of a pupil about
the pupil's immigration status.
(b) Deny admission to a pupil on the basis of the pupil's
immigration status.
(c) Require a pupil or a parent or legal guardian of a pupil
to disclose or provide documentation regarding the pupil's
immigration status.
(d) Discriminate against a pupil on the basis of the pupil's
immigration status.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
