     A bill to amend 1998 PA 58, entitled

 

"Michigan liquor control code of 1998,"

 

(MCL 436.1101 to 436.2303) by adding section 905a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 905a. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2), a person

 

licensed under this act to sell alcoholic liquor for consumption on

 

or off the licensed premises at retail shall post in a conspicuous

 

location a sign informing the public of the effects of alcohol

 

consumption during pregnancy. The sign shall contain the message:

 

"Pregnancy and alcohol do not mix. Drinking alcoholic beverages,

 

including wine, coolers, and beer, during pregnancy can cause birth

 

defects.". The commission shall develop and furnish the sign.

 

     (2) If the person described in subsection (1) sells alcoholic


liquor for consumption on the licensed premises, instead of posting

 

a sign the person may place the message required by subsection (1)

 

on a menu.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 180 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
