A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled
"Public health code,"
(MCL 333.1101 to 333.25211) by adding section 12722.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 12722. (1) If the department becomes aware that PFAS have
been detected in a private drinking water well, the department
shall notify all owners of real property that draw water from the
aquifer in which PFAS have been detected and shall provide
educational information, prepared by the department, that includes
at least all of the following:
(a) What PFAS are and how they can become present in
groundwater.
(b) Potential health risks from PFAS.
(c) Information regarding how the individual may obtain
additional testing of water at his or her property.
(d) Other resources identified by the department that are
pertinent to PFAS.
(2) As used in this section, "PFAS" means perfluoroalkyl or
polyfluoroalkyl substances. PFAS include, but are not limited to,
PFOA and PFOS.
(a) "PFOA" means perfluorooctanoic acid.
(b) "PFOS" means perfluorooctane sulfonic acid.
