A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state
constitution of 1963, by adding section 21a to article V, to
provide for the election of the director of the department of
insurance and financial services.
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state
constitution of 1963, to provide for the election of the director
of the department of insurance and financial services, is proposed,
agreed to, and submitted to the people of the state:
ARTICLE V
Sec. 21a. (1) Beginning with the 2022 general election and
every four years thereafter, the director of the department of
insurance and financial services shall be elected for a four-year
term of office commencing at 12 noon on January 1 following his or
her election.
(2) The director of the department of insurance and financial
services shall be nominated by party conventions in a manner
prescribed by law.
(3) Vacancies in the office of the director of the department
of insurance and financial services must be filled by appointment
by the governor.
Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be
submitted to the people of the state at the next general election
in the manner provided by law.
