ENROLLED HOUSE BILL No. 6063

AN ACT to amend 2006 PA 110, entitled “An act to codify the laws regarding local units of government regulating the development and use of land; to provide for the adoption of zoning ordinances; to provide for the establishment in counties, townships, cities, and villages of zoning districts; to prescribe the powers and duties of certain officials; to provide for the assessment and collection of fees; to authorize the issuance of bonds and notes; to prescribe penalties and provide remedies; and to repeal acts and parts of acts,” (MCL 125.3101 to 125.3702) by adding section 205d.

The People of the State of Michigan enact:

Sec. 205d. (1) A zoning ordinance shall not regulate or prohibit a sign that is located on or within a building and that commemorates any of the following:

(a) Any of the following who die in the line of duty:

(i) Police officers.

(ii) Firefighters.

(iii) Medical first responders.

(iv) Members of the United States Armed Forces.

(v) Corrections officers.

(b) Veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

(2) As used in this section, “medical first responder” means that term as defined in section 20906 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.20906.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days after the date it is enacted into law.

This act is ordered to take immediate effect.
