Senate Resolution No. 203.
A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Mike Nofs.
Whereas, As the Ninety-ninth Legislature comes to a close, the members of this legislative body are honored to pay tribute to Senator Mike Nofs for his years of service. Over the span of his career, he has exhibited commitment and dedication to his constituents of the Nineteenth District as well as citizens throughout this state; and
Whereas, Mike Nofs brought a rich and diverse background of experience and knowledge to the Senate that includes a 30-year career in law enforcement at the city, county, and state levels, including 25 years with the Michigan State Police. He also served as a member of the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners where his leadership contributed to the implementation of innovative programs that assisted victims of sexual assault and with seniors in need of prescription drug coverage; and
Whereas, In 2002, Mike Nofs was elected to the House of Representatives. Known for his adeptness at working in the spirit of bipartisanship, he ushered at least a dozen bills into law, most notably the rewrite of the Telecommunications Act and the 2008 energy package; and
Whereas, First elected to the Senate in 2009, Senator Nofs served as chair of the Energy and Technology Committee for eight years and vice chair of the Banking and Financial Institutions Committee for four years. Over the last four years, he has been a member of the Appropriations Committee and served as chair of the State Police and Military Affairs Subcommittee. He has also been a member of committees dealing with commerce, tourism, economic development, and human services issues during his tenure. Under his leadership, legislation was enacted that established a long-awaited comprehensive energy plan in 2016; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate, That we offer this expression of tribute to commend and thank the Honorable Mike Nofs for his notable contributions to this legislative body and to our state; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Senator Nofs as evidence of our gratitude and best wishes.
