Senate Bill 292 (Substitute S-1 as reported)

Sponsor:  Senator Lana Theis

Committee:  Insurance and Banking

CONTENT

The bill would amend the Revised Judicature Act to prescribe the venue for an action involving personal injury protection (PIP) or PIP benefits.

Specifically, the bill specifies that in an action for PIP or property protection insurance benefits, the county in which the original injury occurred or in which the person who sustained the accidental bodily injury resided would be the county in which to file and try the action.

FISCAL IMPACT

The bill would have no fiscal impact on State or local government. The new language could shift costs between individual local governments, but overall likely would not result in a net increase or decrease in actions.
