Rep. Tenisha Yancey, from the 1st
District, offered the following invocation:
“Lord God, We come to You today with
our hearts full of gratitude to say Thank You.
We thank You Father for giving us
another day to do the work that YOU have called us to do.
We thank You, Father for the spirit of
humility for we know that we are not here on our own merits Father God, but
because You have created us to serve not only the people of the state of MI,
but to also serve You Lord God! Therefore, we give You all the glory, honor and
praise for blessing us to be a blessing to others.
We thank You Lord for Your grace and
Your mercy not because of who we are, but because of who You are Father!
You are Jehovah Shalom; and we thank
You for peace.
You are Jehovah Jireh; and thank You
for providing,
You are Jehovah Rapha; and thank You
for Your healing,
And the only thing we have come to ask
for today Father God is Your continued blessings. We ask that You continue to
bless this body and our Governor to do the work You have called us to do. ‘For
nothing will be impossible with God.’ So we ask that You bless us to work
together as one and to align our goals with Your will.
We pray Father God that we will not
just be speakers of Your Word, but doers Lord God, and most of all we ask You
to bless this state, this country and this world we live in.
We know that we will not live in the
flesh forever so we pray that when we depart this life here on earth that we
have lived according to Your Word so that we may have eternal life.
We ask these things of You In the Name
of Yeshua who is our Messiah, Amen.”

Motions and Resolutions
Reps. Brixie, Ellison, Manoogian, Shannon, Elder, Bolden, Stone, Hope,
Lasinski, Guerra, Pohutsky, Sneller, Greig, Chirkun, Cynthia Johnson, Brenda
Carter, Hood, Wittenberg, Coleman, Garrett, Cambensy, Hertel, Sabo, Sowerby,
Gay-Dagnogo, LaGrand, Clemente, Tyrone Carter, Warren, Yancey, Byrd, Hoadley,
Jones, Garza, Cherry, Love and Kuppa offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 220.
A resolution to recognize the
47th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court issuance of the Roe v. Wade ruling.
Whereas, The House of
Representatives recognizes the anniversary of the United States Supreme Court
decision, Roe v. Wade, decided on
January 22, 1973, affirming that the Constitution of the United States
safeguards a woman’s right to make her own medical decisions, and that
government should not intrude in the most private and personal family matters;
and
Whereas, Women’s reproductive
freedom is vital to a woman’s health, economic security, and the ability to
participate equally in society; and
Whereas, Comprehensive
reproductive health care, including safe abortion, is a vital component of a
woman’s overall health; and
Whereas, Like other medical procedures,
the safety of abortion is furthered by evidence-based practices developed and
supported by medical professionals; and
Whereas, Any regulation of
medical care should have a legitimate purpose and if possible, be enforced in a
way that increases, rather than decreases, access; and
Whereas, In the landmark decision
Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt,
the Supreme Court recently reaffirmed a woman’s constitutional right to access
safe, legal abortion, confirming more than 40 years of precedent; and
Whereas, One in three women will
need an abortion in her lifetime, and as such, safe, legal, and accessible
abortion is an essential component of comprehensive reproductive health care;
and
Whereas, Abortion is one of the
safest medical procedures performed in the United States with more than a 99
percent safety record; and
Whereas, Everyone should have
access to comprehensive health care in the state of Michigan. A woman’s right
to access safe, legal abortion without burdensome restrictions imposed by a
state is at stake; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by
the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative recognize
the 47th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court
issuance of the Roe v. Wade ruling.
We denounce violence towards abortion providers and their patients; and be it
further
Resolved, That we oppose efforts
to undermine the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision by
eliminating access to abortion in Michigan and throughout the country; and be
it further
Resolved, That the House of
Representatives affirms that all people have the right to access reproductive
healthcare services without fear of violence, intimidation, or harassment and;
and be it further
Resolved, That we affirm the
right to access health care without interference in this state, including safe
and legal abortion.
The resolution was referred to the Committee on Government Operations.
